Alton Towers News

Updated: 28th March 2010 - Th13teen is now open.

TH13TEEN is the ultimate rollercoaster and every theme park ride you’ve ever dreamed of in one. The ride will join a long line of world-first attractions at the Alton Towers Resort including Nemesis, Oblivion and Air. Based on the discovery of an old burial ground, visitors will be invited to take a ride into the Dark Forest, where they will have to try and escape the all-consuming power of the creeping forest.

Added: 1st February 2010 - Sonic Spinball.

Formerly known as Spinball Whizzer, the ride will be given a special makeover to ensure this very popular hedgehog feels right at home. You too can enjoy listening to his favourite tunes whilst spinning faster than the speed of sound on this fabulous family rollercoaster. Each ride experience is different, so you never know if you're going to spin or drop - and it could be in any direction!

Added: 1st February 2010 - Rita gets a re-theme.

Recent pictures on the Alton Towers Flickr page shows Rita: Queen of Speed being re-themed. It's out with the Ug-Land and in with the Dark Forest!

General News

Updated: 2nd February 2010 - Results are in for 2009! Mitch Hawker 2009 coaster polls.

You may not be aware that even us geeks get a glitzy award ceremony and end of year party that would rival The BRIT's, MTV Music Awards and even the Oscars. We will come together and crown a coaster the number one spot.

Ok! so maybe not quite...we shall fill in an online ballot to rank the world's best and worst from 2009. We will then email them off to be counted and ranked. The results will be posted on the Mitch Hawker web site. See! I told you it was glitzy.

The results are in and I can confirm the Wooden & Steel Coaster results for 2009.

Rank

Wooden Coaster Results

Steel Coaster Results

1

The Voyage, Holiday World

Bizarro, Six Flags New England

2

El Toro, Six Flags Great Adventure

Eagle's Fortress, Everland

3

T Express, Everland

Expedition GeForce, Holiday Park

The Voyage is back at #1 for the third time in its four years. That ties the record set by Tonnerre de Zeus and later tied by Shivering Timbers for most years at #1 in the poll.

After its debut #1 ranking in 2008, T Express fell to third this year while losing the mutual rider comparisons to The Voyage and El Toro 10 to 4 and 10 to 5 respectively.

Six Flags New England's Bizarro is #1 again. Eagle's Fortress again finished #2 (based on rides delivered a year or more ago as it did not operate in 2009) and Expedition GeForce again placed third in the poll.

Let's have a look at how our UK Coasters faired in the polls. Here is the top 3 from the UK in both categories. (the number in brackets is where the coaster placed in the full poll)
